Markus joined Rocket Internet in March 2014 and is a founding member of RCKT. He is a man of simple tastes: he loves pizza, beer and football. Sometimes the three things go together. He lives by two rules: „Do More“ and the good old „ABC Principle: Always Be Closing“, courtesy of Glengarry Glen Ross.
Here are the items that Markus feels are absolutely essential for his workday
1) Globe Bantam Cruiser
Every true hipster needs a kick-ass skateboard, right? It’s more like a fashion statement than it is a means of transportation. Screw that. I’ve been skating since I was 13 years old and the feeling of flying through the urban jungle on this baby never gets old.
2) Ray-Ban Justin
Have you ever heard of Casey Neistat? If you’re answer is „No“, go check him out. He is by far the coolest guy on YouTube and a visual storyteller who really gets the mechanics of social media. A couple months back, he made a video about his sunglasses (Ray-Bans, of course). And since I’m a very loyal follower and fanboy, I just had to get my own pair.
3) PR Award, Young Professional of the Year
They say people never forget their first. Being awarded Young Professional of the Year from the PR Report a couple of weeks ago was definitely something I’ll never forget. I consider this award a #workplaceessential, not because I like having a golden statue sitting on my desk, but because it was a defining moment for me that assured me that I’m on the right track with my career.
4) MacBook Air/iPhone 6
I’ve never been a big fan of Apple – until I got my MacBook Air for work. Switching from my beloved PC to Mac took me a day. It is fast, superlight, and makes me feel like I can work from anywhere. Stickers add the swag you need when working from a coffee shop in Berlin. I was hooked and immediately dumped my Samsung Galaxy for an iPhone. Life is good in the Apple ecosystem.
5) Holm Friebe, Die Stein Strategie (The Rock Strategy)
Agency people live and work in an ultra fast-paced environment, fueled by a constant stream of information coming in daily through every channel the digital world has to offer. With it comes the constant fear of missing out (FOMO) – it’s our job to be on the forefront of the latest trends. This book is an excellent reminder that sometimes, silence is golden. Even for media people.
