Andreas joined RCKT. in March 2015. Raised in the small town of Grafenau in southern Germany, Andreas is proud of his Bavarian heritage. The Lederhosen were a gift from his mother and come hand-crafted from artisans in his hometown (ed. note: how can you not love that website). Otherwise, it’s all business for this southerner, be it his do-it-all Lenovo laptop or handy iPod.

Here are a handful of items that Andreas feels are absolutely essential for his workday.

1) Lederhosen (as a symbol of his Bayern upbringing and first language – the Bavarian dialect)

Public relations is often exhausting work, especially when it comes to speaking different languages in the office. I don’t just mean German (which is a challenge for Bavarian people already) or English but also in regards to the language your target group is speaking.

Using my Bavarian mother tongue is like mental gymnastics for me. It relaxes the way I speak. And because language forms the world around us – as some constructivist sociologists argue – it helps me to work in an environment of Gemütlichkeit (translation: coziness).

2) iPod

It’s often busy in the office and for writing stuff I need to be by myself (typically by listening to “Einaudi” or “Abfahrt Hinwil“)

3) Coffee Pods

Coffee has been a post-lunch ritual for me since university. It reminds me to go back to work and relax at the same time. My preferred formula – heavy on the milk, no sugar.

4) Tech Tools

My phone and laptop are my everyday weapons. They help me to be up to date, write stories and keep in contact with colleagues, customers and journalists. PS – I’m still thinking of switching to a Macbook.
