Hey Instagram you need to face it,  the dogfilter always wins against the copycat.

It finally happened. I guess it had to, even though I hoped it wouldn´t. Instagram introduced their new story mode. Now, users post pictures with filters and write on the pics. After 24h those “stories” are deleted. Sound familiar? You know this from somewhere? Yes, you do, because it is basically exactly like Snapchat Stories. Except the cool melon, beauty and monster filters.

“Other companies deserve all the credit.”, Instagram CEO, Kevin Systrom. At least he mentioned that all credit for the idea goes to other companies, even though he didn´t mention Snapchat by name, we all know he meant them.

What I care most about is, that this is not the Instagram I know.

I got used to the new, ridiculously colorful logo, which took a while, but for me Instagram was always a platform where you post your special pics, the best of the best. The ones that you want to keep on your profile, the ones that should not be forgotten. I guess this has changed now, Instagram has become a mix of Facebook’s newsfeed and Snapchat’s fleeting nature. And I am not a fan, I think with this new feature, Insta lost its purpose and uniqueness.

Of course there is also an upside to this story…

The feature might stop people from showing off on instagram. It might stop them from delete pics just because they do not “perform” well after an hour of being visible. It might limit this “hunting for likes”, that sometimes appear as the latest movie of the hunger games. Also, the add-on could bring people closer on Instagram. Using stories on Instagram means opening up to the world, showing not just the #potd, but the pic of every moment of the day, maybe even the unfiltered ones.

But let´s see if people actually use it and the feature gets picked up. I am curious, and I bet so are you.
